March 11 – 4:30 pm – MoCo Scientists for Kids: Dr. Bergonzo at the National Institute of Standards and Technology will speak on Measurement and Molecular Machines.  She is a computational chemist working in the field of structural biology. She uses computers to study biomolecules, which are the very small materials produced by cells. In this talk, we’ll be learning about some different biomolecules that are so small they are hard to see – so she creates computer models to predict what they look like and how they move. If scientists can understand how they move around, they can understand what jobs they do in cells. This is important because it helps in understanding how things work and how they can be changed, leading to new drugs and vaccines.
